Helen T. Demko, age 95, of Byesville, OH, passed away at home peacefully in her sleep on December 29, 2017.

Helen was born on January 12, 1922 in West Winfield, PA to the late Andrew and Mary (Strunak) Demko.

She was a graduate of Toronto High School and earned a degree in education from Webster College. Helen spent 58 years in her career as a teacher with the last 38 years for the Byesville School System.

Helen was the kindest, most caring person, routinely putting the needs of relatives and friends before her own. She lived her life serving the Lord and others.  She enjoyed baking and spent her retirement years visiting the elderly and shut-ins, bringing them joy, gifts and her baked goods.

Helen was a member of Christ Our Light Parish in Byesville. She regularly attended the Byesville Golden Sixties events, where she found much enjoyment.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by infant brothers, John and Michael Demko; sisters, Irene Smolak and Mary Lower and nephew, Michael A. Lower, who passed on December 26, 2017.

Helen is survived by her sisters, Veronica (Albert) Deickman of Corinth, TX, Theresa Demko and Patricia (Richard) Balser both of Toronto, OH; 12 nephews and nieces, including David (Karen) Lower, who assisted Helen with her needs and was a constant support for her; several great-nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces.

Family and friends will be received on Friday January 5, 2018 from 9:30-10:30 am at St. Francis Church for viewing prior to her Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10:30 am with Fr. Thomas Vennitti as celebrant.  Interment will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery, with a luncheon provided after in the St. Francis Church Hall.

The family wishes to express a special heartfelt thank you to Helen's wonderful friends and neighbors in Byesville who became her extended family, watched over and cared for her in her declining years. Their help to Helen was invaluable to her family.
