Joan R. (Elliott) Burrows

Joan R. (Elliott) Burrows, 77 of Empire, OH, was welcomed home on Saturday, June 11, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family who not only cared for her but admired her strength and perseverance.

She made all who she met feel special and loved. This was evident by the numerous people that visited and reached out to her during her illness. Her contagious smile and laughter will continue to resonate in her children.

Joan was born June 9, 1939 in Empire, OH, daughter of the late William and Helene (Thomas) Elliott.

Joan worked for many years as a waitress at the Abdalla’s Tavern in Stratton, OH. She was a member of the Empire United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward Burrows and sister Judy Lucas.

Surviving are her children, Kim Kelley and her companion Thomas ‘Tucker’ Hannan of Toronto, OH, Lincoln (Gina) Kelley and Vincent Kelley all of Empire, OH and Cynthia (Brian) Lawrence of Mobile, AL; three sisters, Yvonne ‘Bonnie’ Pope of Steubenville, OH, Susan Reese of Empire and Sharon (Bo) Kestner of Toronto; her six grandchildren, Jami and Joel Robertson, Tyler and Ethan Kelley and Zane and Seth Lawrence; four great-grandchildren, Jade and Janna Glatzer, Jaxon Robertson and Lillianna Kelley.

Following Joan’s wishes she will be cremated and burial will be at the convenience of her family.

Joan’s arrangements are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
