Joseph R. ‘Joe’ Sabados died peacefully on June 19, 2015 in Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois at the age of 88, after a valiant battle with a long illness. He was a resident of Arden Courts Senior Facility in Elk Grove Village, Illinois and formerly lived at 1112 North 5th Street, Toronto, Ohio.

Joseph was blessed with a large and loving family.  He was born to the late Andrew Senior and Anna Sabados of Toronto, Ohio and is survived by his brother John (Margaret) of Strongsville, Ohio, sisters-in-law Irene (Andrew Jr.) and Carolyn (Edward). Joe was loved by many nieces and nephews of his three brothers who loved and supported him each in their own way. He is preceded in death by brother Andrew Jr. of Steubenville, sister Mary of Washington D.C., and brother Edward of Canton, Michigan.

Joseph was born on April 2, 1927 in Toronto, Ohio.  He graduated from Toronto High School in 1945.

He was in the service of the US Army and a former member of The American Legion Post 86. Joe worked at the Hancock Manufacturing Stanford Plant until his retirement.

Joe was an accomplished wood worker and often made pieces of furniture and knick knacks for his home and family.  He was also an avid puzzle maker and framed many of his photo puzzles plus built 3D puzzles. Although Joe was profoundly deaf he loved to dance.  Many evenings were spent dancing with his family and at dance venues in Ohio.  Joe would talk often about his memories of Toronto where he raised and raced pigeons. He also spoke about his love for the Ohio River, swimming to Brown’s Island and the gardens his family once planted there. Before his move to Illinois he was a frequent attendee at services at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Toronto, Ohio.

A visitation and funeral is scheduled to take place in Toronto, Ohio at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1225 North River Avenue, Toronto, Ohio.  Visitation is scheduled in the church from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM, on Friday July 3, 2015 followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM.  Burial services will be at Toronto Union Cemetery where Joseph will receive a 21 gun salute from the Toronto American Legion Military Honor Guard. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joe’s life and his memories of the Ohio River. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
