Michael A. Bodnar, 90, of Toronto, OH, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 in the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, OH, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born May 5, 1927 in Toronto, son of the late Michael G. and Anna (Zamborsky) Bodnar. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John and George Bodnar and sisters, Helen Lucas, Dorothy Brettel, Catherine McConnell, Thresa Byers and Margie Byers.
After graduating from Toronto High School in 1945, Mike proudly served his country in the US Army. He retired from Weirton Steel Corp. and Toronto City Schools. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Toronto Red Knights and Steubenville Big Red. Mike was Catholic by faith.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley (Henry) Bodnar; his sons, Michael (Carole) Bodnar and Keith (Melissa) Bodnar and his daughter, Melissa (John) Watts; his grandchildren, John-Michael Watts, Elizabeth Bodnar, Michael Bodnar, twins Natasha and Victoria Bodnar and Keith Bodnar II; his sisters, Eleanor Garren, Monica Lindamood and Mary Ann Allen; his dear lifelong friends, Sue and Eric Cochran and his angel caregivers, Vicki and Jenlynn.
A private funeral service will be held at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017. Fr. Thomas Vennitti will officiate and burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion.
