Newell E. Smith

Newell E. Smith, 86, of Toronto, OH, passed away Sunday July 10, 2016 in Trinity Medical Center West  in Steubenville, OH.

Newell was born April 16, 1930 in Bloomingdale, OH, son of the late Newell D. and Grace (Gotschal) Smith.

He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. as a machinist after 21 yrs. of employment.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Toronto, the Toronto Masonic Lodge #183 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, Toronto American Legion Post #86, V.F.W. and the Barbershop singers of America. He loved his hobbies of artwork, drawing and hunting.

Newell served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS E.F. Larson.

In addition to his parents, Newell was preceded in death by his wife Norma A. (Hudson) Smith, Dec. 29, 1995 and his sister, Elnora Woosley.

Surviving are his children, Pattie (Jim) Lamantia of Toronto, Karen (Bill) Lawrence of Wellsville, OH, Lora (Mark) Taylor of Hilliard, OH and Curtis (Stacy) Smith of Bellefontaine, OH; his five grandchildren, Ryan Lamantia, Breann Lamantia, Brad Taylor, Nathanael Smith and Thomas Smith; his six great-grandchildren, Logan, Dryden, Braxton, Maverick, twins Magnus and Sheamus.

Visitation for Newell will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home 701 Findley St. in Toronto. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Kevin Rinkes officiating. Burial will follow in Bloomingdale Cemetery in Bloomingdale, OH.

Masonic Services will be held on Tuesday at 8 pm and Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion Post # 86.
