Russell R. ‘Rusty’ Roth, 88, of Toronto, OH, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 in the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH, surrounded by his adoring family.
Rusty was born Sept. 5, 1928 in Toronto, son of the late John A. and Myrtle (Shipley) Roth.
He was retired pipefitter from Weirton Steel and a former bus driver for Toronto City Schools. Rusty was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Toronto, the Sunrise Sr. Citizens and the Toronto American Legion Post #86.
Rusty was a WWII Veteran having served his country in the US Army as a Military Policeman. He was a beloved husband, father and pap pap who always put his family first and he had a love for woodworking, playing cards with friends and line dancing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia ‘Patty’ Roth (2015), an infant daughter Deborah, his brother John Roth and his sister Betty Leasure.
Rusty is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Mary ‘Kitty’ (Werntz) Roth whom he married Oct. 28, 1950; his four daughters all of Toronto, Kathy Simmering, Susan (John) Kell, Sally (Mark) Ludewig and Cristine (Marty) Thompson; his sister, Shirley Rawson of Wintersville, OH; seven grandchildren, Amy (John) Rice, Heather (Jim) Zellar, Tara (Scott) Talkington, Lindsay (Jared) Pinkerton, Mitchell (Nicole Weiss) Ludewig, Jessica (Jake) McClain and Brien (Kasey Willener) Thompson; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Family and friends will be received Friday, Feb. 10 from 3-7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Toronto with Fr. Thomass Vennitti as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Toronto American Legion Honor Guard.
Additional visitation will be held on Saturday morning in the rear of the church from 9:15 am til time of Mass at 10am. Vigil service will be Friday at 2:30 pm.
