John W. Tarr, 77, of Toronto, OH, passed away Sunday March 17, 2024, in the Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.
John was born May 2, 1946, in Steubenville, son of the late William George and Doris (Strickler) Tarr. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janie Wittmer and Joyce Tarr.
John retired from the First Energy W.H. Sammis Plant in Stratton, OH, with 38 years of service, where he was an I&T Supervisor.
He loved to golf at the Mountaineer’s Woodview Golf Course. John also loved restoring cars and going to car shows. He could always be found starting his day off with coffee with his friends at the Toronto McDonalds.
John attended Jefferson Technical School, and later graduated from the Diesel Institute of America in St. Louis, MO. He also served in the Army National Guard for six years.
Surviving is his wife, Marilyn A. (Morelli) Tarr, whom he married Sept. 23, 1972; daughter, Jacqueline (Clarence) Tarr-Jones, son, Benjamin (Tammy) Tarr of Columbus, OH, and sister, Judy (Bob) Korte of Los Olivos, CA.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, from 10 am to 11 am at the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Toronto. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will follow at 11 am. Father Thomas Vennitti will celebrate, and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
