Laurence C. “Larry” Mosti, 61, of Toronto, OH, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in the Laurels of Steubenville, OH.
He was born March 10, 1963, in Steubenville, son of the late Frank D. and Rita Ann (Hickey) Mosti. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Marty Mosti.
Larry graduated from Toronto High School in 1982. After graduation he went to work at Stacey’s IGA, then Levolor in Weirton, WV, and Voto Sales in Steubenville before going into Public Safety as a career.
Larry started as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Toronto Fire Dept. in 1983 and was hired full time in 1996. He officially retired in March of 2024. Larry also joined TEMS as a volunteer in 1994. When TEMS Joint Ambulance District was formed in 2002, he was one of the first hires as an Advanced EMT and was still employed.
Larry was very involved in the Boys Scouts Organization for several years. He earned his Eagle Scout, the Silver Beaver Award in 2020, and the Outstanding Eagle Award. Larry was a Two Chiefs Unit Commissioner, Troop Committee Member, Assistant Scoutmaster, District Member and Merit Badge Counselor. He volunteered his time, for 22 years, to the medical staff during summer camp and Camporees as well as Wilderness First Aid. He also taught first aid and CPR to staff and campers.
Every August Larry could be found volunteering his time at the Jefferson County Fair, organizing the EMT volunteers. Larry worked many Jamboree in the Hills concerts as an EMT. He could also be found helping local funeral homes, including the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, working as a funeral attendant in his “spare time.”
Larry’s memberships included the IAFF Local 2229, where he was Secretary and Treasurer, the St. Francis Catholic Church in Toronto, the Ohio River Valley Council, and the Toronto Eagles. He enjoyed camping at Tappan Lake making frequent stops for ice cream at the Deersville General Store and lending a hand at the Deersville Vol. Fire Dept.
Larry leaves behind his daughter, Amanda (James) Cooper of Steubenville; son, Aaron (Kayla) Mosti of Toronto; grandchildren, Connor, Levi and Jace Cooper, and Addilynn and Alden Mosti; sister, Denise Mosti Exterovich of Naples, FL, and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26 from 2 pm to 8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 am at St. Francis Church on Findley St. in Toronto. Fr. Thomas Vennitti will celebrate. Firefighter Honors will be presented outside the church following the Mass with an Emergency Vehicle Apparatus procession thru Toronto.
