Clarence Morris Obituary

Clarence Edward ‘Popeye’ Morris, 93, of Toronto, OH, was called to Heaven quietly at the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, OH, with family at his side on the morning of May 17, 2018.

 

Clarence was born Feb. 2, 1925 in Steubenville, son of the late Guy and Mary Lou (Plumby) Morris.

 

He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. – Welding Dept. He was proud to serve his country as a World War II Army Veteran in the 566 Anti-Aircraft Battalion.

 

Clarence was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Toronto, the Toronto American Legion Post #86, the former 6906 VFW of Toronto, a former member of the Toronto High School Booster Club, Disabled American Veterans and the USWA Local 1190.

 

Clarence was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who brought great inspiration and guidance to those whose path he crossed by the way he lived his life through his faith. He was an avid gardener, Cleveland Browns fan and Toronto Red Knight Football fan.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Linda and Louise Morris; sisters, Dorothy Ellis, Clara ‘Skip’ Feeney and Leona Tenney; daughter-in-law, Lena Morris.

 

Clarence leaves behind his wife, Gertrude Louise (Brooks) Morris, also 93 years old, whom he married July 6, 1944 and together celebrated 73 years of marriage; his sons, James (Linda) Morris, Wayne Morris, Robert (Mary Jo) Morris, Paul (Elaine) Morris all of Toronto, David Morris of Mansfield, OH and Rosie his dog; his grandchildren, Amy Thompson, Tiffany Shenton, Kimberly Lowiec, Holly Watkins, Joseph Morris, James Morris, Wayne Morris, Jr. and Jeffery Morris; his great-granchildren, Avery, Seth and Claire Watkins, Benjamin Lowiec, Madison and Alexandria Thompson, Lilly Shenton and Olivia Morris.

 

A Memorial Service celebrating Clarence’s life will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Toronto. Rev. Kevin Rinkes will officiate and Military Honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion. Arrangements for Clarence are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.
