Donald R. Smith

Donald R. Smith, 85, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday April 8, 2019 in the Laurels of Steubenville, OH.

Don was born Nov. 5, 1933 in Toronto, son of the late Harry and Laura (Rhoades) Smith.

He was retired from W.H. Sammis Ohio Edison Plant, where he worked as a boat captain. Don attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Toronto.

Don served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a grandson Justin.

Surviving is his wife, Shelby Jean Smith, whom he married July 15, 1957; his children, Vickie (Ed) Zeigler of Toronto, Donald (Lisa) Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Laura Jean (Mike) Weber of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Jane Noble of Lancaster, OH; his sister, Harriett (Glenn) Baker of Toronto and his brother, Harry (Kathy) Smith of Parma, OH; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday April 11, 2019 from 4 - 8 pm at the J. E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto where his funeral service will be held Friday at 11am. Rev. Eric Frey will officiate and burial will follow in Osage Cemetery. Veterans Graveside Honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion Post #86.
