Jared E. Hawkins, 91, of Toronto, OH, passed away Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.


Jared was born March 6, 1926 in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Clarence B. and Ella Mae (Ensell) Hawkins.


He retired in 1988, as Captain of the Edison Queen, from the First Energy Corp. Sammis Plant in 1988 after 31 years of service. Jared attended the New Somerset Christian Church and he was a member of the Weirton Marina.


Jared was a Veteran of the US Navy having served his country in WWII.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.


Jared leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Mary Lou (Wellington) Hawkins whom he married Sept. 22, 1947; his son, Daniel (Jane) Hawkins of E. Liverpool, OH; his two daughters, Linda (Tom) Urdzik of Wheeler, OR and Nancy (Gary) Cline of New Alexandria, OH; his sister, Leah France of Lynchburg, VA; his brother, Warren Hawkins of Toronto; his three grandchildren, Jeremy Cline and his companion, Jennifer Mazik, Joy (Jeremy) Jones and Neil D. Hawkins and his great-grandson, Evan Jones.


Family and friends will be received Monday, Aug. 28 from 4 – 8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Rob Minto officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of his family.
