Robert ‘Betto’ Vincent Merriman, Sr., 74, of Piney Fork, OH, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019.
He was born Nov. 16, 1945 in Martins Ferry, OH, son of the late Floyd George and Rose Marie DaGrava Merriman.
Robert was a graduate of Smithfield High School. He retired, as a foreman, from the Jeff. Co. Highway Dept. in Smithfield. He was also a member of the Smithfield Methodist Church and Piney Fork Presbyterian Church.
He was the President of Pine Valley Sportsmen’s Club, for over 25 years, where he loved to spend time fishing, among other activities. A devoted worker for Pine Valley to the end, he loved to keep busy with the maintenance of the grounds.
Robert was a loving father and grandfather and loved all his family and friends with all his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving and devoted wife, Cheryl Mae Miro Merriman; an infant son, Floyd Robert Merriman; a son, George Robert Merriman; a grandson, Joshua Andrew Merriman; a brother, Floyd George Merriman; sisters, Inez Zajdowicz, June Mazur, Loretta Merriman and Rose Marie ‘Maria’ Kinney.
Robert is survived by his fiancé, Betty Ruttencutter of Bloomingdale; his children, Barbara (Danny) DiCenzo of Yorkville, Robert (Colleen) Merriman, Jr. of Wintersville; his daughter-in-law, Jodi Merriman of Steubenville; his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Christopher DiCenzo of Yorkville, Emily Merriman of Bay Village, OH and Alyssa, Isabella and Luke Merriman of Steubenville; his aunt, Marie DaGrava DeLibera of Baltimore, MD; his brother-in-law, Larry Kinney of Powhattan Point, OH; his sister-in-law, Becky Merriman of Mint Hill, NC; his special cousin whom he thought of as a sister, Darlene Spontaneo Smith of Gulf Breeze, FL and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 3 – 7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield where his funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 am. Pastor Damian Williamson will officiate and burial will follow, next to his wife, in Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain.
