Amy Lynne (Cunningham) Pastre was called to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 1, 2026. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Trinity West Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Amy was born in Steubenville, OH on March 3, 1963. She was a 1981 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School. Amy continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh and Jefferson Technical college where she graduated as valedictorian with a degree in nursing.
Amy pursued a fulfilling career as a registered nurse, caring for people at numerous hospitals and institutions over the years.
Amy was a talented cook, baker and seamstress. She was a voracious reader and loved books. She also loved music, the arts, and all animals. Amy’s most important attribute was her humanity. She had an effortless ability to meet people where they were for who they were without judgement or prejudice. She lived her life with dignity, humility and compassion and lived by the Golden Rule.
Amy was blessed with an enormous family. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She also had great nieces and nephews, and a great-great niece and nephew. She loved them all unconditionally.
Amy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Helen Lloyd and Frank and Eva Jelski, her mother, JoAnn Cunningham, mother-in-law Ruth Pastre, sister Renee Parker, and brothers-in-law, Mike Brown, Terry Parker and Gary Zavatsky.
As Amy continues her journey in Glory, she leaves behind her father, James (Margaret) Cunningham of Steubenville, OH, sister Lori (John) Hunter of Pittsburgh, PA, husband Matthew Pastre of Dillonvale, OH, daughter JoAnna (Jake Hedjuk) of Brilliant, OH, step-daughters Summer Pastre of Steubenville and Aishya Pastre of Dillonvale, sisters-in-law Lori (Jeff) Ford of Martins Ferry, OH, Lisa Brown of Smithfield, OH, and Paige Zavatsky of Martins Ferry, OH. The stars in Amy’s sky were her grandchildren, Jase, Levi, Elias, Ezekiel, Haislee and soon to be (baby girl) Hedjuk, and her dear friend and neighbor, Tracy Brown.
Family and friends will be received at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield, OH, from 12 noon to 3 pm on Saturday, May 9. A Memorial Service for Amy, led by Fr. William Cross, will commence at 3 pm.
The family thanks everyone for their prayers and support, as well as the Teramana Cancer Center, Dr. Rahman, and his team for their care during her battle.
