Obituary

Andrew "Andy" Fidak, 78, of Toronto, OH, passed away at his home Sunday evening Jan. 6, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Andy was born July 4, 1934 in Empire, OH, son of the late Joseph and Mary Rodak Fidak.Andy was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Steubenville. He was retired from Titanium Metals in Toronto, OH where he worked as a Packer and Loader. He was a dedicated father and employee having missed only one day of work in 34 years at the plant. Andy was a graduate of Toronto High School Class of 1952. He traveled all around the Tri-State area as a Paper Hanger for many years and was even voted Best Paper Hanger in the Ohio Valley by the Herald Star Newspaper. He was a caretaker of St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church in Toronto where he attended with his wife for many years. Andy could also be found at the Baseball Field in Toronto where he started running the scoreboard in the press box in the summer of 1996 for the Legion baseball team alongside his nephew Alan Fidak who was announcing. He kept score for both the Legion team and the Red Knight baseball team full time from 1997 thru 2007.In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Alex, Mike and John and his sister Irene Shimmel.Andy leaves behind his wife, Mary Ann (Herrick) Fidak of home whom he married November 7, 1956; his daughter Mary Frances "Fran" (Otto) Jack, Jr. of Lakewood Ranch, FL, his sons Andrew Michael "Andy" (Cyndy) Fidak of Toronto, OH, Mark Anthony Fidak of NC, his daughter Vicki Ann (Scott) Kelley of Steubenville, OH; brother Paul (Charolotte) Fidak of St. Petersburg, FL, sister Mary (Tom) Kowaleski of Steubenville, OH, sister Helen Hood and sister Joyce (Richard) Dobbs both of Toronto, OH, brother Robert (Millie) Fidak of Wintersville, OH; his eight grandchildren Tiffany Knight, Jennifer (Jon) Welling, Jamie Bush, Ryan Fidak, Brittany Roberts, Shanna Roberts, Parker Kelley, Kristine Jack and three great-grandchildren, Peyton Knight, Marley Knight and Austin Welling.Visitation for Andy will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 2-8pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home Thursday morning at 8:30am prior to Andy's Mass held at 9:30am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Steubenville, OH. Msgr. Gerald Calovini will Celebrate the Mass and burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:45 Wednesday evening.Memorial donations may be made in Andy's memory to Valley Hospice 10686 St. Rt. 150 Rayland, OH 43943.
