Obituary

Anne Elizabeth (Smusz) Blaner, 86 of Toronto, OH, died at home on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Anne was born Oct. 4, 1922 in Chester, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Anthony and Sophia (Sagan) Smusz. She was a former employee of the Homer Laughlin China Pottery in Newell, Harker Pottery and National Church Supply of Chester, WV. She attended Chester Public Schools. In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara J. (Blaner) Shields, and her brothers, Stanley and Joseph and sisters, Bernice and Mildred Smusz, and Mary Macey. Prior to her marriage, Anne was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. She married Andrew 'Andy' J. Blaner on May 8, 1948. While married, she attended the St. Joseph Byzantine Greek Catholic Church, while remaining a Roman Catholic by faith. She was a member of the St. Joseph Women's Society and American Legion Auxiliary, Post 86 of Toronto. She is survived by her husband of 60 years of marriage, Andy, and by her children, Janice (husband Bob) Anderson of Toronto, Dorothy at home, David (wife Kelley) of Moon Township, PA.; sister Julia Glass and brother John Smusz of Chester, WV. She was a loving grandmother to Robb Anderson, Tim (wife Renee) Anderson, Tom (wife Angie) Anderson, and Andrew 'Andy' Anderson; Beth and Bryan Shields and son-in-law John Shields; Zachary and Alexis Blaner; and great-grandchildren Maddie and Jenna Anderson and Bryson, Callie and Wyatt Anderson and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Anne will be from 6-8pm Tuesday, December 16 and from 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday, December 17 at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. There will be a Parastas service held on Wednesday evening at 6pm at the funeral home. Anne's Funeral will be held on Thursday, December 18 with a Prayer Service at 9:30am at the Funeral Home followed by a Solomn Divine Liturgy at 10:00am at St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church in Toronto with the Fr. James Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery. www.jefosterfh.com In lieu of flowers, it is the wish of the family of Anne E.
