Obituary

Archie Bowen Myers, 88, of Southern Pines, NC, formerly of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday Sept. 25, 2017.

He was born March 24, 1929 in Weirton, WV, son of the late Chester F. and Garnet P. (Williamson) Myers.

Arch was a retired High School Band Director and Principal at Stanton Local High School in Hammondsville, OH. He, along with his wife Margaret Alice, also owned and operated the former Myers Learning Center in Toronto.

After graduating high school, Arch joined the U.S. Air Force where he was a Trombonist with the 681st Air Force Band. He received a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from West Liberty State College. Arch then enrolled in Graduate Studies in Music Education at The Ohio State University and he completed his Masters Degree in Music Education from Duquesne University.

He was a former Trombonist with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra and an Ohio Music Ed. Assoc. Adjudicator for Band and Solo & Ensemble Competition.

Arch was a member of and involved in many organizations, including: the First United Methodist Church in Toronto; the Youngstown Area Community Band; member and director of the Toronto Community Band; Past President of the Weirton Jaycees; WV Master Gardener; Past President of the Jeff. Co. Retired Teachers Assoc.; Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc.; the Gadabouts Steubenville Senior Citizen Group; the Osiris Shriners in Wheeling, WV; and the Weirton, WV Lodge 171 AF&AM, where he recently earned recognition as a 50-year member.

In addition to his parents, Arch was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Alice (Keesee) Myers who passed away Feb 21, 2014.

Arch leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Susan G. Myers and Andy Fox of Pinehurst, NC; his son and daughter-in-law, William and Nadine Myers of Powell, OH; his grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer Wlodarski and Alexander and Jacob Myers.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. Rev. Kevin Rinkes will officiate his service. There will be a memorial gathering for friends and relatives from 12 noon until time of the service at 1 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Archs memory to the First United Methodist Church in Toronto and to the Pinehurst United Methodist Church in Pinehurst, NC.
