IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arthur C.
Wells
January 7, 1947 – June 13, 2025
Arthur C. Wells, of Mingo Junction, OH, lovingly known as "Art" to those closest to him, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025 at the age of 78 in Weirton, WV after a hard fought battle with several illnesses.
Born in Steubenville, OH, Arthur was the son of the late Ralph C. Wells and Audrey (Higgins) Wells. He was also preceded in death by his brothers William Pete Wells and Ralph Clinton Wells Jr.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and man of deep faith, Art's life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering dedication to God and family.
Arthur was the beloved husband of Marlene (Pettit) Wells, with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage this year in March. Marlene was the love of his life and partner in every way. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a life full of laughter, love, compassion, and unwavering support.
Art's legacy of faith and service touched countless lives. He was a 1964 graduate of Smithfield High School. Art earned a bachelor's degree from Alderson Broaddus University, and a second Bachelor of Arts from Wilmington College. He completed his master's degree, with a Master of Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Art honorably served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Seoul, South Korea, and later answered the call to ministry. Throughout his life, Art pastored several American and Southern Baptist churches across Tennessee, Michigan, and Ohio. Most recently, Art was the pastor of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Bloomingdale Ohio.
Arthur worked in the maintenance departments for Hilliard City Schools for several years. He also served with compassion as a Hospice chaplain, offering comfort and spiritual guidance during life's most difficult moments.
He was a man of strong convictions and a tender heart — loving, caring, sometimes stubborn, and always ready with a joke or a teasing smile. He adored telling stories, reminiscing about the past, and snuggling his beloved cat, Midnight. But most of all, he cherished his family — every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild held a special place in his heart.
Art Wells lived a life rooted in faith, guided by love, and filled with purpose. He leaves behind a powerful legacy of kindness, service, and devotion that will live on through the lives he touched.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Dion and husband Matt, of Lowell, MA, and Michelle Nash and husband Keith of Newton Falls, OH. Art was a proud grandfather to 5 grandchildren, including Joshua Wells, whom he and Marlene lovingly raised as a son, and his wife Juli of Hilliard, OH, Colby and Mason Dion, and Justin and Heather Nash. He was also a cherished great-grandfather of three, to Cameron and Olivia Wells as well as Carissa Nash. He is also survived by his brother Keith "Harpo" Wells, and sister Yvonne "Bonnie" Wells, brothers-in-law Harold Pettit Jr. and Larry Pettit, and sister-in-law Kathy Perticarini, as well as many adored nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 18th, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home at 107 Hill Street in Smithfield, OH followed by Military Honors at 1:00 pm, presented by the Yorkville VFW, and a funeral service by Reverend Mark Click.
Memorial donations may be made in Arthur's name to the organization or charity of your choice.
