Catharine F. Burchfield, 95, of Piqua, Ohio, formerly of Toronto, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 8, 2009, from her home. She was born March 28, 1914, in Coban, Guatemala, daughter of the late Richard Simpson and Annie Maude Watson Anderson. Catharine obtained her Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Nazarene College and her master's degree from Boston University, Boston, MA. Catharine was a retired teacher from the Indian Creek School District, where she taught Spanish for 24 years, retiring in 1980. She and her husband, Oscar, also served as missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in Peru, South America from 1940 to 1956. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Toronto and a member of the State Teacher's Retirement Assoc. More recently she was a member of the Piqua Church of the Nazarene. She was very active in the Toronto Tops group for many years and was their reigning queen in 1991. After she moved to Piqua she began a Tops group there. She also volunteered at the Piqua Salvation Army, where she was dearly loved. In addition to her parents, Catharine was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Burchfield, 1996, her son Richard Burchfield, 1968, her brothers: Edward Anderson, and Dr. Charles (Marion) Anderson, her sisters: Agnes (Niles) Clark, Margaret (Russell) Birchard, Elizabeth (Locke) Simons, brother in law, Ray (Dorothy) Burchfield, sisters in law: Olive (James) Rawson, Lois (Richard) Smith and two sons in law, Stanley Susan and Wayne Wolfrom. Surviving are her three daughters, Betty (Konrad) Modschiedler of Piqua, OH, Lois (William) Bradway of Cambridge City, IN, Caroline Susan-Wolfrom of Clinton Township, MI, 18 grandchildren, 39 of great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers in law: Harry (Annie) Burchfield, James (Joyce) Burchfield, William (Janet) Burchfield and sister in law Beverly (Dwight) Gamble, Dorothy (Ray) Burchfield and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends. Friends and family may call on Tuesday Aug. 11th. from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm., at the J. E. Foster Funeral Homes, Inc., 701 Findley St. Toronto, OH. Additional visitation will take place on Wednesday at the 1st. United Methodist Church, 6th and Main St. in Toronto from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1pm. Rev. Kevin Rinkes will officiate the service and burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery.
