Chariessa M. Sam Coil, 89, of Toronto, OH, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023 in the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, OH.

Sam was born in the Gault family home, Dec. 10, 1934, in Toronto (Costonia), daughter of the late Woodrow W. and Ethel M. (Still) Gault.

She was a 1952 graduate of Jefferson Union High School and attended the former Brays Chapel UM Church for many years. Sam held many jobs over the years before eventually retiring from Edison Local Schools where she worked as a cook. Her hobbies included playing Bingo, gambling, and bowling. She bowled in the Womens League in Toronto for many years up until she turned 80.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry D. Pappy Coil (2009), sister, Jennie Redmond four brothers, Woody, Franklin, Robert and Daniel, and brother-in-law, Bob Wellington.

Sam leaves behind her children, Rick (Terrie) Coil, Roxanne (Kevin) Gillis both of Toronto, Kevin (Ella) Coil of Irondale, and Tim Coil of Toronto; four grandchildren, Ricky Coil of Columbus, OH, Ryan (Tamara) Coil of Steubenville, Jennifer (Matt) Gooch of Toronto, and Dustin (Cortney) Coil of Stowe, OH; four great-grandchildren, Camden, Zaidee, and Evan Coil, and Brayden Gooch; two sisters, Jackie Wellington of Toronto, and Linda Bozick of Norwalk, CA; two brothers, Walter (Carla) Gault of Houston, TX, and Paul (Barb) Gault of Homesdale, PA; brother-in-law, Don Redmond and sister-in-law, Sue Gault both of Toronto, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Sam will be held Sunday, Dec. 17 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto followed by her funeral service at 4 pm. Rev. Kevin Rinkes will officiate, and a private burial will be held on Monday at Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto. www.jefosterfh.com
