Sandra Charlene (Fryman) Rhoades, 85, of Toronto, OH, was born on March 18, 1939, in Steubenville, OH, the first child of the late Charles and Alberta (Coulter) Fryman. Charlene entered Heaven on Sunday, July 21, 2024, in the Carriage Inn of Steubenville.
After graduating from Toronto High School, Charlene worked as a secretary at both the Toronto Power Plant and the W.H. Sammis Power Plant in Stratton, OH,
Charlene was a member of the Toronto Church of the Nazarene, where she began playing the piano at 12 years old, and served as the church pianist or organist for approximately 70 years. She was also the Choir Director for many years, and the Childrens Director for 24 years. Charlene served in numerous areas of ministry and leadership at the Nazarene Church throughout her lifetime. Additionally, Charlene was the church pianist at the Empire Methodist Church for 14 years while simultaneously playing the piano at the Nazarene Church in Toronto. She accompanied numerous students over several years at the District Solo and Ensemble Competitions, and played for dozens of weddings and funerals in her lifetime.
Charlene passed away on her 63rd Anniversary to her surviving beloved husband, Charles H. "Chuck" Rhoades, whom she married July 21, 1961. She leaves behind three children, Trudy (John) Wilson of Weirton, WV; Cindy (Josh) White of Green, OH; and Jay (Stacie) Rhoades of Pataskala, OH; one brother, Gary (Janet) Fryman of Midland, MI; and four grandchildren, Victoria and Hunter Wilson, and Lee and Nathan Rhoades.
Family and friends will be received Thursday, July 25 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Additional visitation will take place on Friday from 11 AM to 12 Noon, followed by Charlenes funeral service at 12 Noon, with Rev. Dennis Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto. www.jefosterfh.com
