Obituary

Charles D. “Charlie” Rawson, Jr., 52, of Toronto, OH, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026, at his home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Charlie was born May 4, 1974, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Charles D. Rawson, Sr. and Joyce M. (Flener) Rawson Shrieve.

Charlie graduated from Edison Local High School in 1994. After graduation, he held many jobs, including helping his uncles with their mining companies, working at local tire shops, and, following in his dad’s footsteps, working on cars and trucks from as early as age 12.

Charlie began his career as a diesel mechanic in Pottery Addition before joining TLG in Empire, OH. TLG later became Heritage Transport, which eventually became Arc Wood Environmental, where Charlie worked until the present day.

After work, Charlie often headed straight to the basement to turn on the jukebox and listen to music, especially his favorite classic country songs. He loved riding his side-by-side, collecting tools, sharing them with others, and was always willing to lend a hand.

Charlie met his wife, his “Doll”, Michelle Buchanan, in high school in 1991. They were high school sweethearts who built a life together. Michelle took his last name in marriage on Dec. 28, 2007.

Charlie also leaves behind his mom, who called him “Bubby”, Joyce (Sam) Shrieve of Bridgeport, OH; two sisters, Lisa Wright and companion Ed of Wellsburg, WV, and Sherry Rawson Dewess and companion Joe of Illinois; brothers-in-law, Clint A. Buchanan, Jr. (Chonda Gowin) and Thomas Buchanan (Angie Johnson), both of Toronto; his beloved dog, Digger Dog, and several nieces and nephews who called him “Uncle Charlie”.

In addition to his father, Charlie was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Janice (Reeves) Buchanan and Clint A. “Buck” Buchanan, Sr.

Visitation for Charlie will take place on Tuesday, July 14 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Services for Charlie will follow on Wednesday at 11 am, at the funeral home, with Rev. John E. Fitch.
