Charles E. Chuck Sprouse, 85, of Salineville, OH, passed away Saturday, Mar. 2, 2019 in the Salem Regional Med. Center in Salem, OH following a lengthy illness.

Chuck was born Mar. 30, 1933 in Wellsville, OH, son of the late Lawrence H. and Della (Snyder) Sprouse.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence H. Tuffy Sprouse, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Lila Todd Sprouse, great nephews, James Jimmy and Christopher Sprouse and niece, Stephanie Obenour.

Chuck was in the first class to attend No. Sixteen School in Wellsville in 1938. He loved sports and was proud to have played linebacker and run the 1-mile in track for Wellsville. He graduated from Irondale High School in 1950 and was known as an outstanding center fielder.

Chuck started his career with the PA Railroad working in E. Liverpool in the freight dept. In 1956 he transferred to the Midland Station and remained with the PRR until Mar. 1959 when he went to The NY Central RR at Minerva, OH. There he worked as a freight agent-crew dispatcher before retiring in Oct. of 1988 when Conrail closed the Minerva Yard.

Chuck loved his community and was elected to eight-4 yr. terms as Brush Creek Twp. Trustee starting in Jan. 1964. He worked 11 years security at Airco Welding in Newell, WV for Firm Security out of Pittsburgh and 12 years at the Sammis Power Plant for Allguard Security before retiring in April 2013.

He was a former member of Grants Hill U.P. Church; Past Master and 58 yr. member of the Jenkins Masonic Lodge 471 Irondale, OH; a 25 yr. member of the former Brush Creek Grange No. 1915; 2 yr. President of Jeff. Co. Twp. Trustee and Clerk Assoc. in 1970 and 1971.

Chuck is survived by his brothers, Melvin Sprouse of Hammondsville, OH, James (Mary) Sprouse of Lisbon, OH, Donavon (Carolyn) Sprouse of Warren, OH; a sister Carol Porter of Snellville, GA; several nieces and nephews.

He was a handshake kind of guy whose word meant everything.
