Clarence B. 'Blackie' Black, 92, of Toronto, passed away Monday, August 11, 2008 in the Weirton Medical Center. Blackie was born January 19, 1916 in Richmond, OH, son of the late William and Alyce (Boyd) Black. Blackie was a highly decorated WWII Veteran having served in the U.S. Army earning 3 Bronze Stars, 2 Silver Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a member and Past Commander of the Toronto American Legion Post # 86; VFW Post 6906 of Toronto; Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Toronto; and also Dyer Country Club. Blackie was a cofounder and long time coach for the Post 86 American Legion Baseball Team in Toronto and he also was a Little League Baseball coach in Toronto for 13 years. He was retired from National Steel where he worked as a carpenter. In addition to his parents, Blackie was preceded in death by his wife, Annabel (Cooper) Black who passed in 1999 and his brother Everett. Blackie is survived by his three children, Suzanne Shanahan, Jim Black and Tim Black, and also his sister Nancy (Bob) Hanlin. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Blackie will be held on Thursday, August 14 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Clarke Funeral Home in Toronto. Blackie's Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 15 at 11am also at the Clarke Funeral Home with the Valley Hospice Chaplain Tom Bullard officiating. Burial will follow in Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto where Full Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion. Arrangements for Blackie are being handled by the J. E.
