Daniel Joseph Martaus, 44, passed away Wednesday at the Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville. Dan was born on May 16, 1961 in Steubenville. He is the son of Doris Spilecki Martaus and the late Joseph Robert Martaus who passed away in 1989. Dan was the owner and operator of Dan's Pizza of Toronto. Dan is a graduate of Toronto High School from the class of 1979. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Toronto V.F.W. Men's Auxiliary Post #6906. Surviving along with his mother Doris is his wife Shirley Swearingen Martaus and his three sons, Craig, Joey, and Christopher all of Toronto. Dan is also survived by two brothers, Bob (Lisa Hanis) Martaus of Mesa, AZ; Jim (Amy) Martaus of Toronto; one sister, Mariann Nuss of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Friday from 1-4 and 6-9 at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Findley St., Toronto. A vigil service will be held on Friday evening at 7:30 pm. Friends will also be received from 9:15 to the time of the funeral liturgy with mass at 10am on Saturday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church on N. River Ave. in Toronto with Msgr. Kurt Kemo as the celebrant. Burial will be in the Toronto Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Eagles Service Friday evening at 7:00 pm. V.F.W. Men's Auxiliary service to follow at 7:15 pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Dan Martaus Charity Fund c/o U.S. Bank 217 N.
