Dean L. (Mr. P) Reed Sr., 81, of Rayland, OH, passed away Tuesday Feb. 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.Dean was born July 9, 1932 in Barnesville, OH, son of the late Thomas and Mary Ankrom Reed.He was retired from Norfolk and Western Rail Road, and Harmony Industries.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, most recently, by his beloved brother Dave, and brothers Leonard, Richard and infant twins; sisters, Nancy, Janie, Kathy and and an infant sister.Dean was a simple but hard working man who lived a simple life. He enjoyed motorcycling, and in the past raced stock cars, along with his brother Dave, at the former De-Bo race track in Rayland and other tracks in the Ohio Valley. He especially loved animals; there wasn't a stray that he wouldn't take in to care for.He is survived by his beloved wife, angel and caretaker of 61 years, Jean (Conner) Reed; sons Dean Jr. of Hopedale, Joe (Peggy) Reed, Ed (Brenda) Reed of Rayland; daughters Barb (Julius) Telek of Plum Run, Connie (Reed) Emery of Smithfield; sisters Carolyn (Bob) Rea of Rayland, Janet Hamby and companion of NC; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and dozens of nieces and nephews.Per Dean's wishes he will be cremated. There will be a Memorial Service celebrating his life, held on Friday Feb. 28 at 1:00 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 107 Hill St. in Smithfield, OH. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made in his name to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter PO Box 233 Steubenville, OH 43952 or Hounds Haven 22 Twp.
