Derrick L. West, 57, of McIntyre, OH, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.Derrick was born on September 30, 1951 in McIntyre, OH, son of the late Roger West, Sr. and Margaret Annis (Wheeler) West.Derrick's main passion in life was farming his land in McIntyre; he was the Vice President of the Oak Lake Park also in McIntyre and he was currently employed by Youth Services System in Wheeling, WV, where he worked as a Case Manager. Derrick was a Licensed Professional Counselor in OH and WV having received his Bachelor's degree from Wheeling Jesuit and receiving his Master's in Psychology from Northern Colorado University. Derrick was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country in peacetime. In addition to his parents, Derrick was preceded in death by his daughter Laura West and his brother Roger West, Jr. Derrick is survived by his wife, Teresa A. (Reinhard) West of home; daughter Marcia (Randall) Baughman of West Rushville, OH; daughter Kaira Cooper of McIntyre; daughter Jemel West of Dayton, OH; three grandchildren, Westly, Reagan and Katie; his cousin and his best friend, William "Mac" West of Wintersville, OH; brother Larry (Juanita) Toney of Jacksonville, FL; sister Gail Shields of Steubenville, OH; sister Barbara (Charles) Gross of Cadiz, OH; sister Deanna (Frederick) Fields of Jacksonville, FL; sister Cathy (Frank) Takach of Smithfield, OH. Derrick also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.There will be a memorial service held on Friday, August 7 at 1pm at the Shaffer Chapel AME Church in McIntyre, OH with the church being open from 12-1pm for family and friends to visit with Derrick's family. Rev. Mary Ann Smith will be presiding over the service. There will also be full military honors provided by the Smithfield American Legion Post #396 following the service. www.jefosterfh.com
