Donald W. Carothers, 70, of Rayland, OH, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 in Trinity West, after a long battle with cancer. Don was born Sept. 18, 1942 in Weems, OH, son of the late Lewis and Anna Mae Brown Carothers. Don was retired as a Diesel Mechanic. He was a life time member of the DAV and the 11th Armored Calvary's Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia. He also spent two tours in Vietnam in the US Army.In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Mae Fellows, Ruth Weber and Alice Lee Sidley; two brothers, Bernard and Robert Carothers. Surviving are his wife Christa (Hoecker-Jung) Carothers, whom he married on August 20, 1971; his daughter, Anne (Jon) Carothers Cusano of Ashtabula, OH; his step-daughter, Andrea (Bruce) Jung Carothers of Jefferson, OH; step-son Rolf Jung of Smithfield; three sisters, Pat, Sue and Dotty; seven brothers, Joe, Fred, Elvis, Tom, Bruce, Jeff and Warren Carothers. He is also survived by two grandchildren Sasha and Cody, his life time Army buddy Larry Riggenbach, several nieces and nephews and his little dog Pudgy.There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday Jan. 10, 2013 at 1 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 107 Hill St. Smithfield, OH. A memorial visitation will take place from 11 am til time of the service at 1. The Service and Military Honors will be provided by the Piney Fork American Legion in conjunction with other area Legion Posts.
