Dorothy M. (Ash) Prokes, 98, of St. Clairsville, OH, formerly of the Smithfield and Piney Fork, OH area, passed away Saturday September 28, 2024.

Dorothy was born May 9, 1926, in Martins Ferry, OH, daughter of the late John and Mary (Miller) Ash.

She was a homemaker and formerly worked at the Piney Fork Post office.

Dorothy was a member of the Smithfield Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, and the Orange Rebecca Lodge #754 in Dellroy, OH. She was also a 1943 graduate of Smithfield High School.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard 'Dick' Prokes, on Jan. 16, 2002; sisters, Cora Hawkins and Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Fisher; three brothers, John Edward Ash, Ruben Stratton and Harry 'Ches' Stratton.

Surviving is her daughter, Karen (Bill) McGilton of St. Clairsville, and son, Dr. Randy J. Prokes of Ponte Vedra, FL; sister-in-law, Irene Stratton of St. Clairsville; three nieces, Mary Francis (Bill) Renzi of Bloomingdale, OH, Laurine Kornetti of NJ, Darla Voss of WV, and other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Thursday Oct. 3 from 11:30 AM to 1 PM at the Smithfield Presbyterian Church with services following at 1 PM. Wally Jancura will officiate, and burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield.
