Edward J. Yanik, Sr., 74, of Toronto, OH, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010 in the Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH surrounded by his loving family.Ed was born October 21, 1935 in Steubenville, OH son of the late Pius and Mary (Kovach) Yanik. Ed was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Toronto, OH, the Toronto American Legion Post #86, the Toronto Sunrise Seniors, Holy Name Society, and the Penn. Polka Association. Ed was also a former 4th Ward Councilman for Toronto and also a former Booster Club President. He was retired from Titanium Metals Corp. in Toronto, where he worked as a Painter. Ed also served his country in the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Yanik who passed away in 1998; his brother Thomas "Pi" Yanik and his sister Veronica Wells.Ed is survived by his son, Edward J. Yanik Jr. (Lorie) of Toronto, OH; daughter Lori Wolfe of Steubenville, OH, daughter Monica (Tim) Wilson of Toronto, OH, daughter Janel (Tommie) Goff of Steubenville, OH; his sister Margaret (John) Skrabak of Toronto, OH. Ed is also survived by his grandchildren, Tiffani Deffenbaugh, Hannah and Nolan Wilson, Terri Lynn Wolfe, Brittany Yanik, Travis Wolfe, Dakotah, Gabriella and Ciara Goff; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Kameron Wright. Ed's family would also like to thank all his wonderful caregivers, Latisha Mayhand, Angel Nixon, LeeAnne Chociej, Jamie Smurda, Deanna Price, his niece Susan Kulstad and the staff of Charity Hospice.Visitation for Ed will be held on Friday, Oct. 1, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. There will be a Vigil service for Ed at 8pm at the funeral home on Friday. A Mass in celebration of Ed's life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 10am at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Toronto. Prior to the mass there will be a Prayer service at 9:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Toronto Union Cemetery, Toronto, OH.Memorial donations may be made in Ed's memory to either Charity Hospice or The Toronto High School Alumni Association.
