Elsie M. (Svoboda) Gron, 91, of Smithfield, OH, passed away Sunday Sept. 21, 2014 in Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.

Elsie was born May 22, 1923 in Little Washington, PA, daughter of the late Adolph and Rose Kesl Svoboda.

She formerly worked at the Cooks Coffee Co. in Wheeling, WV as a bookkeeper. Elsie was a member of the Smithfield Christian Church, where she was a deaconess, a former member of the Smithfield and Mingo Jct. Sr. Citizens clubs, was a 1941 graduate of Bridgeport High School and a graduate of the Wheeling College of Commerce.

Elsie loved baking, cooking, sewing, quilting, gardening and singing church hymns.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1990, her daughter Patricia J. DaRe in 2000, and two brothers Joseph and Stanley Svoboda.

Surviving is her daughter, Rosemary Gron of Smithfield, OH. Elsie had a special love for her nephew and niece David and Carlane Svoboda of Rayland.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 5-7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc. 107 Hill St. in Smithfield, where Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11 am. Rev. Wilford Simeral will officiate her service and burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, OH.
