Emerson R. Babe Pope, 87, of Steubenville, OH, passed away at his home, Tuesday Oct. 7, 2014.

Babe was born Aug. 22, 1927 in Toronto, OH, son of the late J. Raymond and Agnes L. Holub Pope.

He retired from Weirton Steel Corp. after 40 years of service working in the Tin Mill Electric Dept. Babe was a member of the First Christian Church in Steubenville, where he was a trustee and elder emeritus. He was a 50 yr. member of the Masonic Lodge# 691, the Scottish Rite-Valley of Steubenville and a graduate of Steubenville Business College.

Babe served his country in the Merchant Marines and U.S. Marine Corp. during WWII and Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents, Babe was preceded in death by his brother, John R. Jack Pope.

Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Yvonne Bonnie Elliott Pope and his daughter, Julie Ann (Mark) Decker of Toronto.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening 6-8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Additional visitation will take place on Sat. morning from 10 am until time of his Funeral Service at 11 am at the First Christian Church on N. 4th St. in Steubenville. Pastor Douglas Shoaff will officiate his service and his burial will be at the convenience of his family.

Masonic Services will be held on Friday evening at 8 pm.
