Erich J. “Rick” Bodnar, 74, of Toronto, OH, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at his home.
Rick was born on August 11, 1952, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late John J. and Virginia L. (Shaw) Bodnar. He was also preceded in death by his sister Susan Lawrence.
He retired as a sales representative for Ferguson Enterprises in Columbus, OH. In retirement, Rick moved back home and founded Bodnar’s Boards, crafting cutting boards, coasters, and noodle boards that he enjoyed selling at local craft shows.
Rick was a 1970 graduate of Toronto High School, where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He went on to play baseball at Ohio University in Athens, OH. Rick was also a former member and Club Champion of Dyer Country Club in Toronto.
Surviving is his fiancé, Debbie S. (Clapham) McCoy of Toronto; son, Adam Bodnar of Columbus, OH; daughter, Erica (Sam) Smith of NC; two brothers, John “Bo” (Linda) Bodnar and Mark (Judy) Bodnar both of Toronto; grandchildren, Sawyer and Maddie Smith of NC; Debbie’s two daughters, Dawn and Dana, their five children and their three grandchildren, who Rick loved as his own.
In accordance with Rick’s wishes, cremation will take place, followed by a private memorial service at the family’s convenience. Arrangements are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.
Memorial donations may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
