Obituary

Floyd Pythias Thompson, 74 of Smithfield, Ohio passed away Sunday Oct. 31, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.Floyd was born March 29, 1937 in McIntyre, Ohio, son of the late Samuel and Thelma Atkins Thompson. He was retired from A.E.P. Cardinal Plant in Brilliant, where he worked as a coal equipment operator. After his retirement, Floyd took up a side job as a maintenance/landscaper for his daughter in Cranberry Twp., Pa. A job that he loved to do as often as he could. He is also a member of the Jefferson Co. Farm Bureau. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a twin baby brother Lloyd D., brothers Lewis J. Thompson, Clarence S. Atkins and Raymond L. Dalton Jr., sisters Mamie Thompson, Alma Lyles and Gloria Thompson. Floyd is survived by his loving wife Germaine Weatherspoon Thompson, who took care of him until he went home to be with our Lord. Two daughters, Floyduana (Rick) Ley, Cranberry Twp, Pa. La Tonya Jo (Macky) Smith, Smithfield, OH., one son Tommy (Diane) Thompson, Adena, OH.. Step-son Delmus (Kathy) Byrd, Hopewell, VA. Step-daughters, Sharon Robinson, Columbus, OH., Linda (David) Assing, Kileen, TX., Janice( Richard) Brown, and Dona (Jay) Smith of Smithfield. Four brothers, Fredrick C. Thompson, Richard (Nancy) Dalton, Garrett Dalton, Martin (Dorothy) Dalton. Three sisters, Virginia Ramsey, Barbara McCollins and Virginia 'Sis' Watts. 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His loving and caring aunts Pauline West and Rebecca Patterson, many nieces and nephews and great friends. He will be sadly missed. Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm., at the J. E. Foster Funeral Homes, Inc., 107 Hill St. Smithfield; where Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am. Rev. Mary Ann Smith and Rev. Craig Smith presiding and burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
