Obituary

Frances Michel Freeman, 67, of Wintersville, OH, formerly of Smithfield, OH, passed away July 31, 2020.

Frances Michele Freeman was born to Nancy Freeman Britt on February 25, 1953 in Martins Ferry, OH.

She was raised in Smithfield, by her Aunts and graduated from Smithfield High School. Michele was a former member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Womans Club, and the Apple Festival Committee. She was also active with the Democratic Womens Alumni Association and was affiliated with the Jefferson Genealogical Society and the Historical Society where she published a book entitled, African-American Families in Jefferson County that is located in the reference section of the Schiappa Library.

At the age of 47, Michele entered into the Dixon Nursing Home in Wintersville, where she lived for 20 years. Her tenure there was believed to be the longest in Dixon history. While at Dixon, Michele took the role of President of the residents. Michele was also the one resident to talk to the State during inspections.

Our family would like to thank Dixon Nursing Home for their excellent care of Michele during her time there. Michele would often mention Jim, Tasha and Melanie, staff members who really cared for her there along with Father Huber, Jeanette and Stacey. Michele was also known for welcoming all the new residents. She regularly walked all the halls greeting everyone on a daily basis until she was unable to do so.

Michele was proceeded in death by her mother, Nancy, her Aunts, Bacca, Tootie, Doris, Ruth and Donna Jean Palmer and her Uncles, Buckie, Juke (Josephine, deceased), Bill (Mary Elizabeth) and her cousin Sara (Mimi). She is survived by numerous other cousins and a very special and dedicated friend, Clare Vosteen.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like any donations to be directed to the Dixon Nursing Home 135 Reichert Avenue, Wintersville, OH 43953, in the area of Activities.
