Fred Sabatini, 90, a local businessman from Smithfield, OH, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 in the Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH, with his loving family by his side.Fred was born July 31, 1920 in Plum Run, OH, son of the late Alesandro and Anna (Coccia) Sabatini.Fred was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Dillionvale, OH; he was also a member of the Mingo Jct. Knights of Columbus Council 4361, Smithfield American Legion Post #396, Senior Citizens of Smithfield, AARP of Dillionvale, Mingo Sportsman's Club and a life-long member of the Smithfield Lions Club.Fred has been the owner of Sabatini's Garage in Smithfield for 61 years; he drove stock cars from 1951-1957 on the former Debo Racetrack and he was featured in Echoes of the Valley Thunder book by Rick Yocum and he was also taken into the Tuscarawas Co. Racing Hall of Fame. Fred also served his country in WWII with the US Army Air Transport Unit. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother Elmo and his sisters, Mary Mehall, Josephine Talamonti and Antoinette Kniszek.Fred is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Rine) Sabatini, of home, whom he had been married to for 53 years having wed on April 6, 1957; his daughter Kathryn and her husband Dave Simmons of New Alexandria; his grandson Troy David and his wife Misty Simmons of Rayland, OH and their two children, Troy II and TeA. Fred is also survived by several nieces and nephews.Visitation for Fred will be held on Tuesday, March 15 from 3-8pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, 107 Hill St., in Smithfield, OH where his Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 1pm with Msgr. John Kolesar as Celebrant.
