Gary T. Fisher,57, of Toronto, Ohio passed away Monday Sept. 26, 2005 in the Valley Hospice Palliative Care Unit in Steubenville. Gary was born June 20, 1948 in Toronto; son of Mary Elizabeth Smith Fisher of Toronto who survives and the late George Thurman Fisher. Gary graduated from Toronto High School in 1966. After graduation, he attended Rutgers University and graduated from there in 1970. He got his first teaching job at East Springfield High School and although he was loyal to that school, longed for a position at Toronto. He started teaching at Toronto High School in 1974 where he taught plane geometry, math and algebra I . and was a long time coach at Toronto High School. He became Toronto High School's principal from December 1990 to March 1994. His principal's career overlapped with becoming Toronto City School's Superintendent in January 1994 till his retirement in Jan. 2005. Gary is Protestant by faith, his memberships include: THSAA, Rutgers Alumni, Rutgers Football Letter Winners Assoc., Who's Who in Executives and Businesses, Buckeye Assoc. of School Administrators, Dyer Country Club, and Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. In addition to his dad, Gary was preceded in death by his father-in-law Thomas J. Lowery. Surviving in addition to his mother Mary, are his wife; Jo Lynn (Lowery) Fisher whom he married on Aug. 15, 1970, two sons; Travis and his wife Leah Fisher of Akron, Ohio; Timothy Fisher of Toronto, his faithful dog Oreo, two brothers; George and his wife Cookie Fisher, Bill and his wife Cindy Fisher, and his sister; Melissa and her husband Tom Dunlap all of Toronto, Ohio, his mother-in-law Eleanor Lowery of Toronto, and brothers-in-law Jim and his wife Carol Lowery of Lake Forrest, Calf., and Tom and his wife Sondra Lowery of Toronto, Ohio. Gary also is survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call on Wednesday Sept. 28th. from 1pm. to 5 pm. and 6pm. til 9 pm. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Homes, Inc. 701 Findley St. Toronto, Ohio;where services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am. Rev. William Hibbs will officiate the service.
