George L. Cassels, Jr. 77 of Fuquay Varina, N.C. formerly of Smithfield, Ohio passed away Sunday Sept. 25, 2005 in the Brighton Manor Nursing Home in Fuquay Varina. George was born Dec. 17, 1927 in Smithfield; son of the late George L. and Anna Harris Cassels Sr. He is a retired Postmaster, serving the Dillonvale,Ohio Post office for many years until his retirement, and is also a Minister, formerly serving the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Ohio. He is a member of the New Trenton Baptist Church in Emerson, Ohio, attended the St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Smithfield, and is a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bridgeport,Ohio and the Smithfield American Legion Post # 396. George is U.S. Army Veteran, was stationed at Fort Lee, Va. and did a tour in Italy. In addition to his parents George was preceded in death by; two sisters; Mary C. Jackson, Peggy Jean Jackson, and a brother; Fess Cassels. Surviving are; his wife Blanche Stewart Cassels, whom he married on Oct. 13, 1949, his children; Blanche "Leigh" Cochran of Portsmouth, Va., Larry (Marie) Cassels of Mich., Tammy (Carl) Perry of Columbus, Ohio George L. "Buddy" (Beth) Cassels, III. of Fuquay Varina, N.C. 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Grandson. Six Sisters; Jane(Robert) Faithful of Bridgeport, Ohio, Mildred (Ed) Rodriguez of Calf., Marjorie (Ronald) Kirby of Mesa, AZ., Beatrice Etienne and her friend Vate of Dayton, Ohio, Arnette Long of Dayton,OhioHelen (Earl) Stewart of Wash. DC., and one brother, Robert (Nellie) Cassels of Springfield, Va. Friends and family may call on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. at the J. E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc. 107 Hill St. Smithfield, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church on Green St. in Smithfield; Rev. Diane Payton will officiate the service and burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
