Obituary

George V. Cattrell, 81, of Toronto, Ohio passed away Friday, December 17, 2004, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on June 23, 1923 the son of the late George W. and Anna V. Cattrell. George was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto. George served as the Co-Owner and President of George W. Cattrell and Sons (now Cattrell Companies, Inc.) retiring in 1986. George's many civic endeavors included: Mayor of Toronto from1972 to1980, served as President of Toronto City Council from 1966 to 1972. and Service Director of Toronto from 1992-1999. Past member of the Toronto Lions Club serving as Club President (1968), Lions District Governor (1987-88) and State Convention Committee (1988-89). Past board member of the BHJ receiving their Distinguished Citizen Award upon his retirement in 2003. George's love of music included: helping organize and directing the Toronto Gem City Chorus (SPEBSQSA), helping organize and participating in the Toronto Community Band, and participating and Directing the choir of the First United Methodist Church and participating in the choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto. George was a 1941graduate of Toronto High School and on July 3rd, 2004 received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Toronto High School Alumni Association Board at the THS All-School Reunion. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Louise H. Cattrell, his sister, Ann Archer, and his great-grandson, Matthew Cattrell. George is survived by his daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Fisher and her husband, Bill, , two sons, George R. (Buzz) Cattrell and his wife Ann, and Terry (Bear) Cattrell and his wife Maureen, all of Toronto; six grandchildren, Steven and Shanna Cattrell, Todd Cattrell, Jerry and Michael Anderson and Kelley Fluharty; and eleven great-grandchildren, Monique, Rachael and Zachary Fluharty, Brittany, Chelsea, Emily, Ashley and Jamie Anderson, D.J. Fisher, and Brian and Jacob Cattrell; two brothers, Robert L. Cattrell of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Donald M. Cattrell of Hendersonville, NC. Friends and family will be received for visitation from 3-5 pm and 6-9 pm Monday , Dec. 20th at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, 701 Findley St. Toronto (740-537-3900). Friends and family will also be received at the First Presbyterian Church, 116 N 3rd St., Toronto on Tuesday, Dec. 21st from 10:15 until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kevin Rinkes officiating. Burial will follow at the Island Creek Cemetary, Church Road, Toronto.
