George Douglas Gobble, 79, formerly of Toronto, was born April 8, 1927 and passed away January 15, 2007.Born and raised in Toronto, OH, Doug served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On his return, he worked as a heavy-equipment operator for OhioEdison until his retirement in 1986.Throughout his life Doug had close ties to his community, and many friends at the VFW, American Legion, and Eagles Clubs.People in Toronto will remember Doug taking his daily walks, always taking the time to stop and chat with his many friends.He will be remembered as a loving husband to his wife Rose, a devoted father to his children Bruce, Judith (of Barrington, RI), and Mark, and wonderful brother to Raplh.In his later years in life, despite having developed Alzheimer's Disease, Doug was fortunate to have met and come to know his adoptive grandson Joseph, and to enjoy many happy years with his daughter Judith in Barrington, RI. As his Alzheimer's progressed he became a well-loved resident of the St. Elizabeth Manor in Bristol, RI, where he passed away.In addition to his daughter Judith, brother Ralph, and grandson Joseph, he is also survived by his beloved daughter-in-law Rosemarie and grandchildren Nicole and Isaac.Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, sons, Bruce and Mark, and brothers Glenn and Coy.Friends may call on Thursday evening 6-9pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, 701 Findley St. in Toronto; services will be held on Friday morning at 11am with Rev. Kevin Rinkes officiating.Burial will follow in TorontoUnionCemetery where full military graveside honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion Post #86.
