Obituary

George P. Granatir, 91, of Steubenville, OH, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 3, 2009.George was born on January 8, 1918 in Follansbee, WV, son of the late John and Mary (Pavlik) Granatir. George was a retired Ironworker working out of Local #549 in Wheeling; he was a member of the Bell Chapel Church, Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Dept and Emergency Squad where he was a Captain with 18years of service. George was a Veteran of WWII having served his country in the US Navy with the 93rd CB Battalion; George also had a love for flying his plane which he piloted for 53 years.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Florence H. (Shane) Granatir of home; three brothers, John, Andrew and Paul Granatir; two sisters, Anna McCabe and Mary Melnick.George is survived by his two sons, Richard T. Granatir of Steubenville, and Philip (Pamela) Granatir of Wintersville; five grandchildren, Lori (Chris) Joyce, Richard J. (Rachael) Granatir, Jaime Granatir, Shane (Kristin) Granatir and Shawn Granatir. George is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service for George held on Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Center Chapel Cemetery at 11am with the Rev. Jason Elliot officiating. Full Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion Post # 86. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of George to Valley Hospice 10686 St. Rt. 150 Rayland, OH 43943.George's service is being handled by the J.E.
