Helen Scalley, 95, of Toronto, OH, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026, in the Laurels of Steubenville, OH.
Helen was born December 1, 1930, in Toronto, daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Horkulic) Zdinak.
She was the oldest living member of St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church in Toronto where she was active in the former Ladie’s Guild, Choir and Women’s Club.
Helen’s fashion trademark was her love of hats. She loved to cook, all things Hunky, for family and others. She also loved the time she spent as a member of the Toronto Band Parents.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John B. “Jack” Scalley, her daughter Cindy Murphy, her siblings: Mary Tulencik, Anne Karaffa, Madge Pellior, Veronica Sutherin, John, Elek, Michael, Peter and George Zdniak.
Helen leaves behind her children, Diane (Jim) Orsini, Jackie (Jim) Myslinsky, John (Janice) Scalley, Dave (Judy) Scalley, and Sevy (Brian) Gorby all of Toronto; grandchildren, Jenny Myslinsky, Justin (Alicia) Myslinsky, Jessie (Joe) LaSalle, Patrick Scalley, Erika (Ian) White, and Lisa (Brendan) Bobo; great grandchildren, Anthony, Aidan, Cooper, Ava, Evan, Elliana, Emma, Mako, Owen, Royce, and Hudson; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, from 4 pm to 7 pm with a Parastas Service at 7 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto. Prayers will follow Friday morning at 9:15 am at the funeral home followed by a Solemn Divine Liturgy at 10 am at St. Joseph Byzantine Church. Rev. Fr. David Bosnic will celebrate, and burial will follow in the Toronto Union Cemetery.
Helen’s family wishes to thank the staff and residents of The Laurels and Southern Care Hospice for their wonderful care, compassion and friendship. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Joseph Byzantine Church, St. Francis Church and/or the Toronto Alumni Association.
