Ida Ruth Nan (Elswick) George, 88, of Steubenville, OH, passed away Sunday Feb. 26. 2017 in the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville.

Ruth was born Nov. 27, 1928 in Steubenville, daughter of the late Walter and Alice (Dargue) Elswick.

She was retired from the Steubenville City Schools, where she taught Kindergarten. Ruth was co-owner, along with her husband Jim, of the James George Photography Studio in Wintersville, OH, which they established in 1964.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Toronto, OH, and the Mary Martha Sunday School class.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, James B. George, who passed away in 2007; her daughter-in-law, Denise George, who passed away in 2011; two sisters.

Surviving are her three sons, Jim (Karen) George of Pataskala, OH, Larry Scuff George of Bloomingdale, OH and Kirk (Sally) George of Toronto, OH; five grandchildren, Christopher (Cassie) George and Robin (Joe) Jemson both of Pataskala, Chad George of Columbus, OH, Jessica (Brad) Kogut of Norwalk, CT and Mike (Mariah) George of Twinsburg, OH; two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Jemson and Alyza George.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday March 2, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the J. E. Foster Funeral Home 701 Findley St. in Toronto. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Kevin Rinkes officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in Steubenville.
