Obituary

Ida Kirkpatrick Haynes, 92, passed away on June 3, 2026. She was born in Salineville, OH, on January 3, 1934.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Haynes, to whom she was married for 42 years before his passing in 1996, and by Walter Kirkpatrick, Alice Madden Kirkpatrick, James Kirkpatrick, Walter Kirkpatrick, Jr., Elmer Kirkpatrick, John Kirkpatrick, Eileen Kirkpatrick, Anne Kirkpatrick Driscoll, Vickie Kirkpatrick Colson, and Vera Alice “Bunny” Kirkpatrick Wells.

Ida was a proud graduate of Toronto High School, Class of 1952. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the College of Steubenville, and later received a Master’s of Science in Education from University of Dayton.

She began her teaching career at the School of Bright Promise, then located in Central School on Sixth Street in Toronto, while still a freshman at the College of Steubenville. She went on to teach for more than 35 years in the Edison Local School District, serving students at Knoxville Elementary and John Gregg Elementary schools. Throughout her career, she touched the lives of countless students and families through her dedication to education.

An avid reader and lifelong learner, Ida was always curious about the world around her. She loved music, enjoyed dancing, and after retirement, embraced a passion for travel that took her across six continents, including Antarctica. The only continent she never visited was Africa.

She is survived by her children: William Haynes Jr. of Toronto, OH; Stanford Haynes (Margaret) of Orlando, FL; Michele Haynes Tegtmeier (Dean) of Columbus, OH; and Stephen Haynes (Marilyn Wrenn) of Charleston, WV.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many extended family members, friends, former students, and colleagues who will remember her kindness, independence, adventurous spirit, and love of learning.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her grandson, Jake Haynes, whose years of devoted care helped make it possible for Ida to remain in her home, just as she wished. The family is also deeply grateful to Visiting Angels and Valley Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

Her family is grateful for the many years of memories she shared with them and for the lasting impact she made on the lives of those she taught and loved.

At her request, there will be no service. Arrangements for Ida are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH.
