Obituary

J. Maxine Bray, 89, of Toronto, OH, passed away peacefully on Jan 6, 2013 at 12:25 am, at the Masonic home in Springfield, OH where she had been a resident for 15 years. Maxine was born Oct. 17, 1923 in Steubenville, OH, daughter of the late Harry Wilson and Frances Edna Swickard Elliott. Maxine lived in Steubenville until her 18th year when she took a job as telephone operator of the old Knoxville, OH exchange. It was there she met the love of her life Carl F. Bray, who preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1991. They were married for 42 years. After Max and Carl moved to Toronto she worked at the old Ohio Bell switchboard. She then retired to become a full-time housewife. Maxine was a charter member of the Toronto Eastern Star and a lifelong member of the 1st United Methodist Church and the Mary Martha Class. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two infant sisters, a brother Donald H. Elliott, Oct. 1957 and a sister, Mildred L. Hinch, July 1999. She leaves behind the following: Donna Elliott (Fred) Cerullo, whom she reared of Toronto, OH, Lisa (Rick) Applegarth of Dayton, OH, who expertly helped with her care, Kimberly G. (Chris) Keirsey of Toronto, Carl D. (Kimmie Jo) Cronin of Dauphin Island, AL; brother-in-law William (Ann) Bray of Toronto, Nephew Ron (Pam) Hinch of Myrtle Beach SC; many great-nieces and nephews who brought her joy when they would visit, Wendy Applegarth (Jeremy) Keirsey and children Connor, Caitlin and Carter; Renee Applegarth (Jason) Lockwood and children Evan, Logan and Peyton; Mallory Chevalier-Keirsey and Riley Keirsey. Visitation for Max will be held on Tuesday evening Jan. 8, from 6 to 8 pm at the J. E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Findley St. Toronto, OH, where Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am. Rev. Kevin Rinkes will provide her Service and burial will follow in Ft. Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, OH. Condolences may be offered to the family on our website www.jefosterfh.com
