Jacob A. "Jake" Svec, 80, of Toronto, OH, passed away Sunday, December 04, 2011 at his home.Jake was born on July 25, 1931 in McKeesport, PA, son of the late John and Anna (Keysik) Svec.Jake was retired from National and Weirton Steel where he worked as a roll turner. Jake was a veteran of the US Army; he was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Jake was a member of the Korean Veterans Club of St. Clairsville, OH, the Toronto Rod and Gun Club and the 25 Year Club for Weirton Steel Retirees. Jake also coached little league, hot stove, and Maynard Legion Baseball in Cadiz, OH, under coach Bob Mazeroski back in the 70's. In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by 4 infant children, 2 sons and 2 daughters.Jake is survived by his wife of 55 years, Melva "Mel" (Zinaich) Svec of home; his daughter Janet (Jim) Smith of Levittown, PA; his three sons, Michael (Toni Ellen) Svec of Richmond, OH, Gary Svec of Richmond, OH, and Derek (Marilu) Svec of Canal Winchester, OH; his grandson Brandon Svec of Richmond, OH. Jake is also survived by his 2 favorite hunting dogs Rocco and Ben.Visitation for Jake will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 4-6pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:15am followed by his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10am at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Toronto, OH with Fr. Thomas Vennitti as Celebrant. Entombment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, OH.
