Obituary

Jackie (Jacqueline C.) Strovilas passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, in Myrtle Beach, SC, at age 86. Born on August 18, 1938, in Toledo, OH, to the late Orville Facer and Wilma Hern, Jackie was the 9th of 11 siblings.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Ferman Facer, Merritt Facer, Betty Dunberger, Midge Rost, Gerald Hame, John Hame, and Nancy Leuttke. She is survived by sisters, Barbara Shepherd, Marilyn Facer, and Phyllis Cunningham.

Jackie was a loving and devoted wife to Dr. Crist Strovilas for nearly 50 years until his passing. Her legacy continues through her children: Cristine Letourneau, George Strovilas, Glenn Strovilas, and Paul Strovilas. Jackie was a cherished grandmother to Valena Husted, Christopher Strovilas, Nicholas Strovilas, Lindsay Strovilas, Alexa Letourneau, Spencer Strovilas, Joshua Morgan, Jasmine Morgan, Jacob Morgan, Lisa Gill, and Amy Cehrs. Her great-grandchildren Savannah Husted, Caden Husted, Elsie Strovilas, Koda Morgan, Atlas Foster, Keith Maple, Robert Cehrs, Erica Bocek, Amber Gill, Tara Gill, and Garrett Cehrs added joy to her later years. She also leaves behind her second husband, Frederick (Neil) Blackwell. Jackie's family will all remember her loving and generous spirit.

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Riverside School of Nursing, Jackie dedicated her life to caring for others as a registered nurse, working side by side with her husband in their private practice.

Jackie's zest for life was evident through her many interests and community involvement. An avid Buckeyes fan, she and her husband established the C&J Ohio State athletic scholarship, demonstrating their love for the sport and commitment to education. Jackie's skill as an expert needle worker was not only a personal passion but also a gift she shared by teaching in adult education classes. She was also an avid golfer, celebrating four holes-in-one, and her love for the game was matched only by her enthusiasm for traveling.

A long-time Girl Scout leader, Jackie instilled values of courage, confidence, and character in countless young women. Her musical talents graced the choir at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where her voice lifted the spirits of all who heard her. Jackie's dedication to her community was evident in her active roles in the PTA, JAWS (Join a Waiting Samaritan), and the Toronto Booster Club.

Above all, Jackie was known for her generosity. She always said, "I like people. That's why I became a nurse." She treated everyone she met with kindness, respect, and enthusiasm in conversation, whether they were a long-time friend or a stranger in an elevator. After her children, what Jackie loved best was showing love by feeding people. She was an excellent cook and baker. Whether it was a friend stopping by or one of her numerous parties, Jackie would always provide something good to eat. Jackie's home was the heart of many celebrations; especially renowned were her grand Christmas Eve parties, which started as one simple office party and grew through the decades to include hundreds of friends and family.

Jackie's legacy is one of love, service, and the joy of connecting with others. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by those who knew her best. Jackie's life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, full of passion, kindness, and an enduring love for her family and community. She will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her remarkable presence.

Family and friends will be received Monday, Sept. 9 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH, where a service will follow at 1 PM. Fr. Yanni Verginis will officiate and burial will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Toronto.
