James G. Gettings, 71, of Toronto, Ohio passed away Sunday April 24, 2011 in Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, surrounded by his family.Jim was born Aug. 21, 1939 in Toronto, son of the Mildred Starkey Gettings, who survives and the late James D. Gettings. Jim was a retired employee of the First Energy Corp., W.H. Sammis Plant retiring from the Maintenance Dept. He was protestant by faith, loved to hunt and fish and his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. In addition to his father Jim was preceded in death by an infant sister Cecilia in 1937. Surviving are his wife Evelyn (Kotur) Gettings, whom he married on Oct, 1, 1976, his Mother Mildred Gettings of Steubenville, his step-daughter Donna (Bob) Starr of Toronto and his step-son Richard "Dick" ( Sue ) Wells of Strasburg. His sister Marcia Crouse of Toronto, five grandchildren, Kristin (Matt) Parrish of Toronto, Josh (Natalie) Starr of Steubenville, Amy Starr and her companion Daryl Deringer of Bridgeville, Pa., two great-grandchildren, Karyn and Kelsey Parrish and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm., at the J. E. Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Findley St. Toronto; where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Rev. Michael Bongart will officiate his service. Burial will be at the convenience of Jim's family in Toronto Union Cemetery.
