James Frederick Jim Maple, 92, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 in the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, OH.
Jim was born May 20, 1928 in Wellsville, OH, son of the late Frederick Charles and Myrtle Mary (McIlvain) Maple.
Jim retired from the Weirton Steel Corp. with 46 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was the Superintendent of Electrical Maintenance for the Tin Mill. Jim served 4 years in the US Air Force as S/Sgt during the Korean War. Prior to joining the Air Force Jim was in the Navy Reserves.
His memberships included: The First United Methodist Church in Toronto, The Toronto American Legion Post #86, Toronto Masonic Lodge F&AM #583, Valley of Steubenville Scottish Rite 32 Degree, Osiris Shrine Temple, Northern Panhandle Shrine Club, Experimental Aircraft Assoc. Chapter #859 in Wintersville, Historian Member of OX-5 (Aviation Pioneers), Weirton Steel 25 Year Club and Management Club.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Maple Hickman (2002) and his sister, Mardell Cadegan.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Jacqueline E. Jackie (Romey) Maple whom he married Sept. 1, 1950; his daughters, Valerie (Shawn) Irwin of Toronto and Jamie (Padrick) Carnahan of Beaver, PA; brother, Richard Lee Dick (Mary Lou) Maple of The Villages, FL; sister, Winifred Kay Maple Sitko of Talmadge, OH; three grandchildren, Conner and Tanner Carnahan and Leslie Best.
A private family visitation and graveside service will be held for Jim. He will be laid to rest in the Toronto Union Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Toronto American Legion. Arrangements for Jim are in the care of the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto.
