Janice Elaine (Evano) Robertson, 80, of Toronto, OH, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on Monday May 23, 2022, in the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville, OH following a brief illness.

Janice was born Aug. 20, 1941, in Steubenville, daughter of the late George and Helen (Henry) Evano. Janice was a 1959 graduate of Toronto High School and attended Kent State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1963.

Janice was a public-school teacher for 31 years, working for the Steubenville City School District (Lincoln Elementary; 1963-66) and the Toronto City School District (Franklin Elementary, Karaffa Middle School; 1966-94), retiring in 1994. Janice primarily taught Elementary English/Language Arts where she is remembered as a hardworking, caring educator who inspired her students to give their personal best every day.

Janice cherished spending time with friends and family, was an avid reader, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, and always looked forward to playing in her monthly card club. Janice married the love of her life, Arthur R. Art Robertson, Jr. on June 27, 1964. They enjoyed 18 wonderful years together and had one son, Arthur Zachary, in 1981. Janice was devoted to her family and was a lifelong lover of animals, especially her cats.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Art in 1982, and her cousins, Luther Lute Henry, in 1994 and William Hughes in 2020.

Janice is survived by her son, Zach (Sarah Scalley) Robertson of Zanesville, OH, cousins, Karen L. (Ernie) Troia, James M. Henry, and Edward (Halina) Smolen all of Toronto, as well as Patricia Hughes and Michael Hughes of Houston, TX. She will be missed terribly by all those who knew her.

Friends and loved ones are invited to join her family in a Celebration of Janices Life on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto to honor her. A memorial service for Janice will begin at 4:15 p.m. with Robert E. Bobby Petras, Jr. presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Janices name to the Jefferson County Humane Society, 200 Airpark Drive, Wintersville, OH 43953.
