Joe Slivenski Jr., 90, of Piney Fork, OH, passed away at his home on Tuesday January 8, 2013. Joe was born Oct. 25, 1922 in Piney Fork, son of the late Joe and Agnes Gondek Slivenski, Sr. Joe was a retired welder employed by Consol Coal Co. He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church in Adena. His other memberships and interests included the Pine Valley Sportsman's Club, UMWA and the Piney Fork American Legion. He loved the Polka Barons and was a lifelong avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Joe served his country during WW II, in the U.S. Army Air Force. In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by his wife Sophia in 2009; his sister Irene Fillippi and his brother John "Jake" Slivenski. Surviving are his daughter Dianne (Charles) Hughes of Yorkville, OH; his son Daniel (Gina) Slivenski of Steubenville, OH; his sister Agnes (John) Panepucci of Dillonvale, OH; his granddaughter Jessica (Coy) Sudvary of Steubenville, OH and his two great-granddaughters Ari and Leila Sudvary. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11 from 4 - 8 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 107 Hill St. Smithfield, OH. Saturday the family will gather at the Funeral Home from 9:15 to 10:15 am followed by Joe's Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 11am at St. Casimir Church in Adena. Msgr. John Kolesar will Celebrant the Mass and burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield. Wake Service Friday evening 7:30 pm. Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the Piney Fork American Legion, along with other area Legion Posts.
